Fail to Plan, Plan to Fail!

We're well aware that we're not going to pay $33,000 overnight, but our goal is to be able to tackle it within the next two years.  That being said, we won't be able to achieve our goal if we don't have a well devised plan. The very first step was gaining control of the cash flow in our household. We need to be aware of where every single penny is going so that we can control unnecessary spending.  It was a bit of a trial and error process, but I was able to find a method that worked for us. You will not believe the difference this has made for us!

I present to you, our Money Management Binder!

Moving Forward..

Four years ago, at the ripe old ages of 18 and 20, we secretly eloped four days before my new husband was shipped to Iraq.  We were young and in love, but had no idea what marriage was all about.  Four years later, here we are, going strong and still very much in love.  Unfortunately, marrying young meant we had to face many things that you don't even think about when you say "I do".  Insurance, rent, utilities, car payments, etc.. We learned and grew a lot together over the years, but through much trial and error mixed with hardship and financial irresponsibility we found ourselves in a deep, dark hole.  $33,000 deep to be exact.  Now that we're finally in a good place in our lives, we have decided that it's time to start moving full-speed ahead into being debt-free.

I have three main reasons for starting this blog:

  1. Having other people following my journey will help keep me accountable.  Although I actually enjoy handling the finances in our household, it's hard to put money to good use when there's a lot of other fun things we could do with it, let's be honest here.
  2. By using this blog to keep myself accountable, I hope that when the time comes for us to make our next move, I'll be able to look back on my journey and see how far we've come.
  3. If nothing else, I would like to share my experience with others.  If one person can learn from our mistakes and be inspired to make some wise financial decisions, I will be happy that I took a very negative part of our lives and used it to empower others.
So let's get started and see where this goes :)
